This Lakeview backyard had good bones - a beautiful brick patio, a pool, mature trees lining the fence - but the plantings had gotten away from it. Jasmine was spreading where it didn't belong, the beds along the house needed new life, and the area behind the pool was overdue for a cleanup. Here's what we did about it.
We started by tackling the beds along the house. Fresh mulch went down, new plantings went in - ornamental grasses, lantana, low-growing flowering ground covers - and copper pathway lights were staked throughout to give the space some definition at night. The result is a clean, layered bed that actually complements the house instead of competing with it. We also staged out additional plants from our nursery stock right on the brick so the homeowner could see exactly how things would look before anything hit the ground.
Behind the pool was a different story. The jasmine had pushed well past its borders and the tree line needed attention. We got in there, reined the jasmine back, cleared out the dead material from around the base of the trees, and worked fresh soil into the beds so everything left behind has room to breathe and grow properly.
The potted accents scattered around the patio pulled it all together. A few well-placed containers near the pool edge and along the covered porch area go a long way in filling out a space without overplanting it. It gives the yard that lived-in, curated feel rather than looking like a brand-new install that hasn't settled yet.
A little focused attention is honestly all most yards need. It's not always about starting over - sometimes it's just about editing what's there, adding color where it counts, and getting things back under control. Pressure washing the brick surfaces is coming next, and that's going to tie the whole space together even further.
